Original Summary
Pakistan’s recent diplomatic profile has improved through greater engagement in regional forums, leadership roles in multilateral initiatives and efforts to bring rival states into dialogue. Grammar Concepts
1. By + -ing — showing the method
Editorial example: “the country can only capitalise on this improved reputation by addressing the internal hurdles...”
Pattern: by + verb-ing
Use “by + -ing” to explain how something is done or achieved. Here, Pakistan can benefit from its improved reputation by dealing with its internal obstacles.
آسان اردو:
یہاں “by addressing” بتاتا ہے کہ بہتر عالمی ساکھ سے فائدہ کیسے اٹھایا جا سکتا ہے۔ “by” کے بعد فعل کی -ing شکل آتی ہے: addressing یعنی مسائل کو حل کرنے یا ان سے نمٹنے کے ذریعے۔
Example: You can improve your English by reading daily.
اردو: آپ روزانہ پڑھنے کے ذریعے اپنی انگریزی بہتر کر سکتے ہیں۔
2. Present Perfect Passive — “has been chosen”
Editorial example: “this country has been chosen to head the pact’s secretariat.”
Pattern: has/have + been + third form
This form is used when the action has happened and the receiver of the action is more important than the doer. Pakistan is the one that was chosen.
آسان اردو:
اس جملے میں توجہ اس بات پر ہے کہ پاکستان کو منتخب کیا گیا ہے، نہ کہ اس پر کہ کس نے منتخب کیا۔ “chosen” فعل “choose” کی تیسری شکل ہے، اور “has been chosen” حالیہ مکمل شدہ عمل کو passive انداز میں دکھاتا ہے۔
Example: She has been selected for the team.
اردو: اسے ٹیم کے لیے منتخب کیا گیا ہے۔
3. Unless — expressing a negative condition
Editorial example: “Unless space is granted to all political forces in Pakistan, stability will elude us.”
Pattern: unless + present form, ... will + base verb
“Unless” means “if not”. The sentence means: if political forces are not given space, stability will remain out of reach.
آسان اردو:
“Unless” کا مطلب ہے “اگر ایسا نہ ہوا تو”۔ یہاں شرط یہ ہے کہ تمام سیاسی قوتوں کو جگہ دی جائے؛ اگر ایسا نہیں ہوگا تو استحکام حاصل نہیں ہو سکے گا۔ مستقبل کی بات ہونے کے باوجود “unless” کے بعد عام طور پر “will” نہیں لگاتے۔
Example: You will not improve unless you practise.
اردو: اگر آپ مشق نہیں کریں گے تو آپ بہتر نہیں ہوں گے۔
